Old university university bits and pieces (2005-2006)

These are some various odds and ends I did when I was at Bournemouth University. These include my major project (an animation called skyfall) a stylised group project from 2005 and a few character experiments. I haven't touched character art in 11 years now!

This is a still from my Major project 'Skyfall'. This was a fair few years before the Bond film!

Uni major project Skyfall. I was driven to make this piece after I was inspired by hearing the music. I decided to make an environment heavy narrative piece that fitted the music.

A small video which shows some breakdowns of how the project was constructed.

A still from the beginning section of the project. I had fun demolishing a card model for this shot.

I did a lot of work with matte paintings to try and give some scale to these initial shots. All camera moves were physically made with a real camera in a reference environment and then matchmoved into CG.

A still of the destruction section of the project. I spent a fair bit of time looking into cracking and physics simulation. It all kind of worked in the end but it definitely contributed to some hair loss!

A bit of a comp breakdown. I was fairly pushed for time on this project, the level of art and lighting was not as refined as I would like. I had to kind of save it in post.

Uni character project. I had fun making this character. Getting it to render ok in a Maya 2005 viewport was tricky.

This was a 2nd year group project I made at university. I did most of the lighting, post and some texturing stuff. It's still got an acceptable art style but it has obviously aged poorly.

I made this charcter with all shaders and textures, he was designed to be stylised but broadly realistic. There are obviously massive content problems here looking back.

This was the second charcter model. He was inspired by the bowling character from the big lebowski.

This is a model I made while trying to push myself on photoreal head creation. I ended up giving up quickly when it came to constructing the hair as I couldn't find a sane solution.

This is a test sculpt I made when I was learning Zbrush. It's a fairly standard grizzled middle aged man. I don't know why I didn't add eyes.

Here's a full body sculpt full of anatomical errors.
