Killzone Mercenary - M03

These are a collection of screenshots from the Code of Engagement level of Killzone Mercenary for Vita. I was the lighting lead on this level, Emma Howard did first pass lighting on the cruiser interiors. My favourite thing about this level was the strong contrast between the bright airy Vektan introduction to the level and the oppressive contrast when you board the crashed Helghan Cruiser.
I think on balance this level had a more effective colour palette than the first level. In particular the slightly later time of day enabled the saturated sunset to contrast nicely all the signage colouring around the streets area.

This is possibly my favourite area of the game, I really enjoyed establishing the visuals here and I also particularly enjoy playing this bit. There's a lot of potential for stealthy sniping which is how I tended to play this game.

This is the initial establishing shot for the level. Where possible we tried to create dramatic openings for the level, in this view you can see the crashed cruiser you will be boarding later.

This is a view from inside the cruiser. We wanted a dramatically different colour palette when you dropped down into the cruiser.

Killzone games have always been a bit sci-fi, getting this reactor core to look and play right took a lot of iteration.
